HIV/AIDS Policy

Lake Harvest recognises the serious challenge of HIV/Aids within the south African region.  We have thus taken an initiative towards the development of workplace policy in response to the epidemic.  We want to balance the needs, rights and responsibilities of employees irrespective of whether they have the disease.  It is our aim to support HIV infected employees to be as healthy and productive as possible.

We feel strongly that any employees living with HIV/Aids should not be discriminated against by other employees and operate disciplinary procedures to meet this need.  We care about our staff – and offer extended medical aid cover to HIV positive employees to ensure their spouse and children will be cared for.

The company runs an educational programme to all staff on HIV/Aids – with a bi-annual AIDS awareness workshop and the availability of free condoms.  We are determined to respond to this challenge even though much silence and stigma still surrounds it.  We truly recognise that the cost of inaction is greater than the cost of action and HIV/Aids can seriously compromise the ability to deliver efficient service.
